Wake up World!!! Here comes Cindy Woo: A goodwill ambassador, a singer and entertainer -both children and contemporary and not least of all a teacher.
(In honor of Asian Americans).
If you and your “kids” are not waking up to this every day, you may be missing out…
For here is a unique way to learn about mores and the environment thru upbeat, pop style songs in the guise of Sunny Girl. Prepare to be dazzled, entertained and ascertain a thing or two. Click link for an inside look at this event-
This event took place over in Taiwan. So “kids” of all ages got a real treat when not one of their favorites appeared but both Dora and Sunny Girl(wearing the bee gear).
The character Sunny Girl is based on the bestselling children’s book-Sunny Girl’s Dream World and was created by Author/SongWriter Cindy Wu. MIss Wu is a multi-talented singer/performer/artist/educator in the Taiwan. Able to connect to people of all ages. For her it seems to happen in an instant.
Being Polite music video-
After taking a look at Sunny Girl(Cindy Wu) in action it is evident how she was able to relate to children on stage and in the audience. Cindy has an incredible way with younger people and this may come from the fact that she has been teaching and mentoring children in regards to music and performing since the age of 16. And she does. She also at this age accomplished another milestone being accepted at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. Miss Wu Takes great care in how she interacts with each student just as she does while on stage making a connection with the audience.
Sunny Girl’s Dream World written word and the graphics/illustrations that make up the pages this fun and whimsical children’s book land her in a superhero world where she is able to dish out life lessons and etiquette. Well why not turn the images into an animated series or a live action children’s show with an animated segment. The live action part consisting of songs, dance, skits and a cast of characters reflected in muppets, puppets and live performances along with sets that put kids at ease. A “make believe” town and the production taking place in Asia/Taiwan and adding in a cut away to US featuring a segment that has a song being covered by both the Asia set and US and explaining the meaning behind the song examples : We Just Disagree( A song made famous by Dave Mason) with a great message about relationships/friendships and that sometimes people go their separate ways or agree to disagree over some thought or idea.. maybe we juts grew up differently … but that there are no good guys there are no bad guys … there is just you and me we just disagree.. does not mean that you can’t be friends or care about that person… or Wouldn’t It Be Nice( originally by Nik Kershaw) about being in one another’s shoes…that the grass is always greener on the other side…these segments would be in a laid back setting and when possible have the original artists performing with the hosts.. at either location and children in the audience can ask questions of any of the guests and the hosts. but presented all in the round…a more intimate atmosphere. Bringing both sides of the world together. All the kids in each audience and the hosts get to interact with each other. I mentioned hosts picture Miss Wu in Asia and a host in America. This would be a great opportunity to show that our differences are our strengths and how much we have in common.
A comparison of Saturday Morning TV vs PBS/ weekday “Kids” faire.
vs — Mister Rogers and Sesame Street
***In either case there is not much or very little interaction with children themselves. In order to reach the “older” young people(6 and up-especially ask we approach 8+).
We are reminded of past Children’s Programs-the above link) where the emphasis was on mores and values along with breaking barriers to show we are all the same when it comes to basic needs. It does not matter what part of the world you live in . We all need education, people who care about us, a “roof “ over , food on the table, guidance — a mentor and the environment. A matter of importance is the ability to reach out to one another no matter what our race, creed or “color” our shin maybe.. we all bleed if we get cut and guess what? That is the same color….red.
Today more than ever it is super(extremely) important for children to have positive role models and for “girls” especially. Having equal presentation in this day age with the ability that a woman(female) can do anything a male can do. Both these characters represent the “can do” attitude as long as you try your best. But they even appeal to the male gender as well. Have a plan and not to be concerned about what others think of your interests, likes, dislikes and who you call your friends. Positive thoughts and smile use far less energy than being angry or pouting. Things don’t always go the way you plan them, but hey, maybe you have a plan b or have the patients to see it through and realize not everything happens immediately…in fact some of the best things in life ..let’s say most things in life have more satisfaction when it is a result of hard work and planning and the people who helped and supported along the way… but for the moment, at this level, I would just be happy jammin to Dora and Sunny Girl belting out a song or two… so for now I say “you go girls!!!!” And next time don’t forget to invite me…
