Super Spy Sunday-today we kick off with one of the first “Bond” parodies done with style and class ... with a twinkle in his eye, tongue in cheek and yet serious enough with the action and amazing sets . There is nothing like Flint! and no one else like James Coburn. Shaking it up with a wild retro soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith(Star Trek-The Motion Picture/The Man From UNCLE) having provided decades of amazing scores/soundtracks-here giving a new meaning to hip, exotic lounge music. Directed by David Mann and released by 20th Century Fox.

Tonight Derek Flint, ex-Z.O.W.I.E. agent who’s only weapon aside from his quick wits, good looks and physical reflexes is a gold lighter that has over 80 functions including lighting a cigarette….known for not following orders and working strictly alone- he is the worlds only hope in defeating a group of “mad “ scientists bent on controlling the weather and with it capable of causing hurricanes , earthquakes,droughts-putting every seaport on the planet at jeopardy(if this speak loads about climate change I don’t know what does) and just plain making a mess of the world we once again turn to that debonair agent with sex appeal and not one but 4 female assistants .. where I was when this job was being handed out ….but…. oh yes get Flint!!!! He is our only hope ….he is Our Man Flint..man does he have it rough…

For a real treat one can do no better than the soundtrack streaming on Amazon Prime both of Our Man Flint and In Like Flint (again by Jerry Goldsmith) remastered.

The Two Flint films gave us some sophisticated fun and not quite a parody. It was a couple of what would amass to well over 100 plus super spies and films that exploded on the big and small screen from the mid to late ’60s(thanks to the James Bond craze).

These super spies hailed from all over the globe from France, Asia(China-Hong Kong: Shaw Brothers Studios and Japan),

Britain and the rest of Europe(hence the coined Eurospy flicks). Agents/Dectectives like 077, Joe Walker, James Tont, OSS 117, Harry Palmer(see link below),

Fathom(1967 with Raquel Welch) and titles like

Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die(Mike Connors), Our Man in Istanbul & That Man In Rio( Jean Paul Belmondo)(in fact there many Our Man or That Man somewhere). Where do you think the origins of Austin Powers originated. Groovy man groovy. I mean Oh Behave!!!

I mean there was so many you might just need the -

James Coburn was voted #12 biggest actor in 1967. By this time he starred/costarred in several major releases including Charade( Gary Grant and Audrey Hepburn)The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven, The Flint films and two Television series Klondike and Acupulco ..numerous guest appearances such as Bonanza, Rawhide, Wells Fargo and Perry Mason.

James(with camera)and Bruce Lee in India-Scouting locations(Circle of Iron idea conceived by Bruce and James)

Trained with good friend, Bruce lee(which is evident in the Flint films)

But only one person could be this cool -James Coburn…

Tune in next week same time-same channel…and if you have a weather problem get the man with the 83 function gold lighter because if nothing else he can still light a cigar…this is Doc …saying ..wait a minute where did that snow storm pop up from ..it’s the middle of summer and this is Florida … Hey Derek …will someone get me Flint!! well gotta go…

Flint will return in In Like Flint….
