Sunday nights back in the ’60s had another choice other than Disney (Wonderful World of Color or as Wonderful of Walt Disney) in family programming- Wild Kingdom (Mutual of Omaha). Or maybe it was in addition to. They aired on the same network with Disney airing right after. No need to change the channel. ***the series returns-see below.

An explosion of color and animals all in their natural habitat. Filmed on location all over the world. The series was not just about exploring the wilds and bringing us -the average people closer to wildlife but also about educating and preserving and protecting the very habitats of those animals that were introduced on a weekly basis. It was one of my favorite shows and was a popular one in my neighborhood. Especially in the winter months when we were in the house more often and it got dark earlier. Usually airing somewhere around 6:30 and 7:00 pm for a half hour (30 minutes).

The main host who was usually “grounded” — Marlin Perkins and was generally the narrator and left back in the office and Jim (Fowler) was the “guy” in the “field”. And that field was anything but……
