Mickey was “born” in the US in 1928 with the first fully distributed cartoon- Steamboat Wille. However, two other productions from Walt Disney were produced prior but did not get picked until after Steamboat. In fact, Plane Crazy in terms of the public consumption saw a release with sound (originally a silent) in 1929. But I say that Plane Crazy and The Gallopin’ Gaucho had a more adventurous theme.
