Flash Gordon-a Ray guns, Robots & Rocket ships report.
Flash Gordon (1980) and Buck Rogers (1979) both have gotten there due finally having been remastered in 4K. Both within the last 2 months and in time for the holidays. Both films were released theatrically. Within a year and some change from each other.
The releases came at a time when there was a renewed interest in Science Fiction- especially at the box-office .. largely due to the response and the success of Star Wars (1977). Which ironically was a result of George Lucas not being able to secure the rights to Flash. In fact, I did a study via a timeline that viewed releases prior to and after Star Wars was released and a significant number of films all in the space opera-serial themed movies increased and space themed plots as well. The other inspiration for this trend was helped by the Space Shuttle program.
1978 there were 3 and that was counting Battlestar Galactica and Superman the Movie. Then in 1979 alone aside from Buck there was 007 in space with the summer release of Moonraker, Alien, Disney's’ The Black Hole, Star Trek The Motion Picture (Christmas), Counting Buck 5 sci-fi themed movies- The following year-1980 there was an increased number of…
