TV Review…What ever happens in Hawaii stays in Hawaii.

Jake and the Fatman had made their debut in 1987 with a complete season under their belt. It featured an enthusiastic Joe Penny(Riptide) as Jake Styles. William Conrad aka J L McCabe whose background was that of a former rough and tumble HPD(Honolulu Police Department) and a very unreliable bulldog. Plus a young protege working his way to becoming a lawyer/DA himself-Alan Campbell (Threes a Crowd -TV) as Derek Mitchell.

I love this show and a side from the first few episodes of the second season with William constantly uttering the word “bro” every other word it seemed and doing the manly bump of the fists and hugs … as if to establish his character as an official Hawaiian. I forgave this cliched dialog because at the core of the show was this idyllic charm.
