It’s the early ’50s and Disney wanted to be taken seriously. Not just defined by a mouse and cartoons. So, Walt and the company began considering making a live action film. And if you are going to compete with the “big boys” of Hollywood make it spectacular and epic. Larger than life and while you’re at it-the greatest action-adventure film. Remember for almost 20 years prior a feature length film from Walt was a cartoon with a longer story in theory. 1937 saw Snow White and the development of a multi-plane camera that lent the movie patron depth ..almost 3D like and what was on cell seemed to be alive.
