One of the all-time great German Krimi (crime) films. Based on an 1925 Edgar Wallace novel and steeped deep in gothic atmosphere. Large massive estates, an asylum for the criminally insane, man hunts, red herrings, cloaked-hooded figures and lots of disappearing suspects who eventually turn up out of breath…. permanently.
