The year 1983 was not like any year 007 was about to face his greatest challenge-himself. Well at least up on the silver screen. Literally Roger Moore in Octopussy was going up against the original …. Sean Connery in the Thunderball remake, Never Say Never Again. ***The title for Never say Never materialized out of a conversation with Seans wife. She said why not never because that is what you said a decade ago.

2023 marks the 40th anniversary of both these films. Octopussy was a stellar performer at the box-office. It helped that it was a summer release, and it was a major heatwave that year. If you were not in the pool that best place was sitting in an airconditioned theater. Especially in the north since central air was still not a thing. Down south yes.

Never Say Never Again-

Never Say Never Again had Sean and he was in very good shape for his age. But it did not have John Barry’s score and his talent as a composer. The humor was hit or miss. 007 faced off with four Bond women including Fatima Blush played by Barbara Carrera. She was excellent and I would have preferred that her character lived a little…
