Hey who remembers those awesome 80’s tunes and it seemed like every film like Valley Girl , My Chauffeur and Spring Break…was stacked with an amazing soundtrack….well keep a look out because we are going back in time and reexamine the decade and some those wonderful days when there seemed to be no care in the world and MTV was just coming into to existence..thanks to Vinegar Syndrome, Arrow Films -USA and Mill Creek Entertainment…

We can relive those carefree days and the immortal words of Joe Jackson- feelings …stepping out ..into the night, into the night all to the back drop of the Empire State Building and nothing hides the color of lights that shine…electricity so fine …thanks Joe for that great tune about getting out of the house or apt and hitting the clubs and having a good time…exploring the what the night has to offer dressed in p[ink and blue like a child .. just letting the hair down .. that’s what it was all about…

  • Trivia-Ma heading out to grab those Wranglers. Everyone was wearing’em…what about Secret- strong enough for a man but made for a woman.. .well the ’80s had lots of ad campaigns that today seem a little kitsch …

Jumping right in to it a long awaited and very sought after cult hit 1986’s My Chauffeur starring Deborah Foremen (Valley Girl) & Mr Flash Gordon himself-Sam Jones. Deborah steals the movie and rightly so. She arrives on the scene as a waitress who “lands” a job with a very prestiges limosene company. The men have no clue what their in for. And Howard Hesseman is not going to satnd for it. She is quirky, bubbly-loaded with sass and knows what she wants.

This was one before Who’s That Girl (Madonna). A different kind of romcom. Soundtrack by Paul Hertzog and songs by power pop band -The Wigs. A fun film with heart. From Vinegar Syndrome-Bluray.

so for now lets rock out to MTV…

one of the first music videos released on M-TV’s, but making it’s debut on USA Night Flight months before. WE are talking early days of cable in the ‘80s…so lets hear it for that classic Canadian Rock band with the Pink Floyd sound— Red Ryder… with one of my all time favorites to sing for karaoke -no further delay ..Lunatic Fringe

& some vintage music videos… Ryder -one of the very first music videos …

Below Spring Break part of Mill Creek Entertainment’s ’80s triple feature Bluray collection featuring a bitchin soundtrack that includes Scandal singing Warrior

Below: More great 80’s tunes and a preview to what to expect from the full article once unveiled…let this link play on it because it will cycle thru many awesome music videos including Adam Ant’s Good Two Shoes

Below: More great 80’s tunes and a preview to what to expect from the full article once unveiled…let this link play on it because it will cycle thru many awesome music videos including Adam Ant’s Good Two ShoesWhen you have time I invite you all to do some exploring and surf the the waves of the internet tracking down some these films and the music that we often discuss here. I have been fortunate to stumble across a lot of these including Making the Grade on Amazon and most recently Ebay. In fact yesterday , arriving 3 days earlier than promised was in it’s original shrink wrap the Vinyl LP of making the Grade and along with Shandi’s song from above was in big letters Basil Poledouris name stating music composed by. It’s not one that you expect to listed on his repertoire. Basil well known for the rousing music of Conan The Barbarian , Robocop and The Hunt for Red October. But in his career he also lent his talents to some more dramatic pieces of cinema like The Blue Lagoon .

The Misfits of Science theme by Karen Lawrence/Basil Poledouris

Also the ultra eye candy filled Misfits of Science an X-Men of sorts geeky sci comedy action series that ran on NBC for a very short one season only. Can’t say enough about that show .. Kevin Peter Hall and Dean Paul Martin. So the moral or lesson here is you might just find an old friend or a treasure to be hold …

maybe the Holy Grail of geeky collectible “stuff” ..the kind you’ll never want to part with. Even when your girlfriend is standing there at the 2nd floor window threatening to throw out “this old junk” or her. Somethings can’t be replaced… just maybe it’s time to find someone who accepts your “geekiness” . Like a great title from the past Revenge of the Nerds says hunh hunh huhn !!!!

I have saved one of the best for last …probably one of the greatest date flicks, a romantic comedy that has some most outrageous moments and yet are they really… think about all that teen angst you had stored up when you were in high school.. maybe trying to get some guy or girl to notice you.. a how a a rep that didn’t exist but you needed it to be real .. so how do make all those tall tales come to fruition…I mean do you even know what you want or who you are as a 10th,11th or a senior even???!!! Well for Molly Ringwald and Anthony Micheal Hall all this is about to come true amongst some awesome High School hi jinks like stealing or say showing off a girls panties to prove you are a stud .. maybe-just maybe you are that girl, the one who is just right for you .. and she has been staring you right in face all semester. Everyday in science class…For Samantha, she can’t her family to acknowledge her birthday thanks to an older sister engaged to be married…. man life really sucks or does it?

You’ll just have to watch 1984’s

Sixteen Candles…written by and makin his directorial debut…the multi-talented John Hughes. Arrow Films has this available in a truly stoked collectors Bluray…

***Newly remastered from a 4K scan. Spewing with all kinds of extreas including an alternate audio track that was issued for the VHS/Laserdisc releases. Alternate scenes and a reunion of cast and crew plus interviews. And for all you film buffs a pdf of the original shooting script witch I am all over that…

I hope your sixteenth is as memorable Samantha’s….

This is Doc saying stay cool and true to yourself and look for the “rest of the story” coming to Medium Linkedin, Twitter and Facebook soon … make sure those Alligators on your shirts arn’t the ones that swish their tails and snap their jaws… hopefully they are a lot more like Wally Gator … like totally for sure…
